Building on the previous information, please provide a brief summary (250-300 words) of your city or community's policies, programmes and services targeted at older people and how you are planning to make your community more age-friendly. If your application is successful, this summary will be published on the Covenant's website:
By 2030 people over 60 years will represent 40 % of the population in the Manche and people over 75 years old and more should double between 2007 and 2042. The Manche department is willing to pay close attention to living conditions of Manche people. Live well includes age well. Through the Manche political strategy 2016-2021, adopted in Feb. 2016, the Manche departmental council seeks to act in the best interests of older people and their relatives. Active ageing allow people to be regarded not only as older people but as stakeholders in social, economic, cultural, and civic affairs too. The elderly are a wealth and not a burden on society.
This willingness justifies the implementation of a local Plan for maintaining autonomy and independence on the center part of west coast in the Manche. The Plan sets as objective to work on various dimensions of older people lives and go over the medico-social level. The plan will allow the elderly to live well at home and maintain social bonding.
The Manche department is in charge of social action; this is why it organizes and manages this local plan in coordination with the main affected cities of the territory. By coordinating the local Plan, the Manche department aims at improving the elderly quality of life.
