About our guides

How we choose topics, where the facts come from, what we have not done, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.

Who writes the guides

Age Friendly Europe is a small, independent publisher. We write for older people in the UK and Ireland and the families who help them. We use an AI research assistant to gather sources and draft guides. Automated checks then block any page with missing sources, broken links or filler before it is published.

We do not invent experts or credentials. If a qualified reviewer checks a guide in future, we will name them on that guide.

How a guide is made

  1. Choosing a topic. We start from the questions families in the UK and Ireland ask: which alarm works without a landline, who pays for care, what a new rule means for a parent in hospital.
  2. Gathering sources. We read the makers' and providers' own pages, official sources such as GOV.UK, the NHS, gov.ie and Pobal, consumer bodies such as Which?, and reputable news reports.
  3. Only checked facts. Every price, specification and claim must come from a source read for that guide. We say in the text who said it. If we cannot confirm something, we leave it out.
  4. Plain English, both sides. We explain who each option suits and its real drawbacks. We give prices in pounds or euros and point out UK and Irish details such as VAT relief and council schemes.
  5. Checks before publishing. Links, sources, dates and affiliate labels are checked before a guide goes live. We publish at most one new guide a week.

Researched, not hands-on tested

We have not tested the products in our guides. When we describe how a device or service works, we are reporting what the maker, the provider or an independent source says, and we name them. Before you buy, check the current details, prices and coverage with the supplier, as they change.

Dates and updates

Every guide shows a "Last checked" date at the top. That is the date we last confirmed its facts against the sources. We revisit guides when prices, schemes or rules change.

Not medical, legal or financial advice

Our guides explain options and point you to the right people. For decisions about health, care, money or the law, speak to your GP, your council's adult social care team, a care adviser or a solicitor.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, please tell us. Email partners@agefriendlyeurope.org with the page address and what needs fixing, plus a source if you have one. We check every report. When we correct a guide, we update its "Last checked" date.
